The site was barren, the reactions were not. They gathered at Grange Park on Thursday morning under a white tent and blue skies for ground-breaking ceremonies for the $47 million Lifestyle Community Center. Local, county and state officials and major donor company representatives joined township residents to celebrate the 188,000-square-foot, multi-functional indoor facility that will include a 130,000-square-foot, turf soccer field, a running track, volleyball and basketball courts, lounges, a workout area, a cafeteria and meeting rooms.

Right now, the large space in Grange Park looks like a clump of dirt, rocks and construction vehicles.
But officials say in roughly just under two years, that part of land will become a massive community center serving residents in the Lehigh Valley.
"All right, let's dig some dirt."
Organizers say more than 100 residents, community partners and officials watched Thursday's groundbreaking ceremony for what will become Upper Macungie Township's Community Lifestyle Center. The shovels on Thursday only just scratched the surface of what's to come in the next roughly 22 months.
